March Favorites

Emma is the editor & creator (and occasionally writer) for The Messy Heads. She enjoys yellow curry, print media, and singing to herself.

WHAT CAUGHT our eyes, stomachs, hearts, and ears in the month of March.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert- Emma went to a drag show for her birthday and it was based around this movie of three drag queens traveling across the deserts of Australia to perform. Imagine elaborate costumes, huge headpieces, and a silver bus.

Paris Is Burning– A documentary the ball culture of New York City and the African American, Latino, gay and transgender communities involved in it.

101 Reasons to be Vegan Not a movie, but a video we have both watched this month. Does a really good job of explaining veganism in an entertaining & informative manner. It is a great place to start if you want to know more about it or are interested in becoming vegan.

Surfer Magazine- Flipping through these blue-hued pages get us so excited for summer.

Skinny Bitch- Sharp witted, tough-love book on our bad eating habits. Really entertaining read and advocates for a pure vegan diet.

Light Blue Crop Jeans- Emma bought these jeans right before traveling. They are super soft, stretchy, and perfect for plane rides or everyday. Favorite jeans at the moment.

Reinvented Boyfriend Jeans- India went to Burgerama and bought some cheap jeans at goodwill, then sewed fabric on the pockets.

Velvet Leggings- These patterned leggings were also definitely on this months favorites list.

Espresso- Emma has been traveling Italy and sipping 1 euro espressos in every city.

Gelato- Fruit flavors and dark chocolate flavors are usually vegan!!

Smoothies with tofu- Seriously, put silken tofu in your smoothies. It won’t taste weird at all, it adds a creaminess to the mixture so it is almost like a milkshake, plus adds a ton of protein.

Macadamia nut butter- Essentially like peanut butter but with macadamia nuts. For some reason it tastes JUST like white chocolate. Spread on bread with strawberries or use it as cupcake frosting.

Quinoa and hummus- In a wrap or in a salad, quinoa and hummus are a good base to start with. Then you can add whatever you are feeling on top, olives, sprouts, red peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, beans, you get the picture.

Periwinkle nails- India has been trying out tons of shades of blues on her nails lately, from sky blue, to teal, to dark blue, but periwinkle is her favorite for this month.

Is it Vegan?- This app is a lifesaver and a timesaver when you have no idea where to even start eating vegan.

Incense Cones- India sent Emma a huge package of incense (watch her open it here)
